  Fitness and Health Courses 2008-2009
Alexander Technique - Introduction
Monday Evenings, 7.00 to 8.30pm,
Starting 22 September 2008 (8 weeks).
Tutor: Polly Waterfield
Level: Adult learners. No skills or qualifications required.
F M Alexander, an Australian actor, developed this technique over 100 years ago while solving his own persistent vocal problems. He found it helped not only performing artists, but many people with physical, mental or emotional conditions resulting from ingrained habits.
The Alexander Technique is a self-care approach which allows the body to regain its innate poise and which can address the stresses of contemporary living. It is suitable at any age or level of physical fitness, and can help people who suffer from:
- Muscle tension & stiffness
- Back, neck and joint pain
- Poor posture
- Breathing and vocal problems
- Anxiety and stress-related conditions
People use the Technique to:
- Improve performance and prevent injury
- Improve music, drama and sport skills
- Enhance business and presentation skills
- Develop ease and elegance in movement
- Support pregnancy and childbirth
Or simply because they want to change conditions that stop them enjoying a happy, healthy life.
At any age this skill brings new ease and co-ordination to everyday activities. Bring your curiosity, and see where the Technique might take you.
The tutor is a professional teacher of the Alexander Technique.
